When Is an Audit Required?

The requirement depends on where your company is licensed, its tax position and who relies on its accounts. These are the most common reasons UAE companies need an audit.

Free zone licence renewal

Most UAE free zone authorities require audited financial statements as part of the annual licence renewal.

Mainland companies

Mainland companies are generally required to have their annual financial statements audited under the UAE Commercial Companies Law.

Corporate Tax

Audited financial statements are required for taxable persons with revenue above AED 50 million in a tax period, and for Qualifying Free Zone Persons.

Banks, investors and partners

Lenders, investors, shareholders and tender processes often ask for audited accounts, even where the law does not.

Not sure which applies to you? We will confirm whether your company needs an audit and the deadline it should be planned around. You can also read when an audit is mandatory for your business.

Approved Free Zone Auditors

Free zone authorities generally accept audit reports only from auditors registered on their approved panels, and expect them with the licence renewal.

GKA is an approved auditor with AFZ, DDA, DMCC, DSOA, Meydan and RAKEZ. Licensed in another free zone? Tell us which one and we will confirm before the engagement begins.

A Structured Audit, Step by Step

Each stage is agreed and communicated in advance, so you know what is needed from your team and when.

01

Scope and Engagement

We understand your business, the reason for the audit and your deadline, then agree the scope, timeline and fee in an engagement letter.

02

Planning and Risk Assessment

We identify the key risk areas, balances and transactions, and plan the work around them rather than testing everything equally.

03

Fieldwork and Testing

We perform the planned procedures, request supporting records and raise questions as they arise, so nothing waits until the end.

04

Reporting

We discuss significant findings and adjustments with you before issuing the audit report, together with observations on controls where relevant.

What We Need to Start Your Audit

Having these records ready shortens the fieldwork and reduces back-and-forth. We will confirm anything else specific to your business once we understand it.

Records not fully up to date? Tell us where things stand, and we will advise on what can start now and what needs to be completed first.

  • Trade licence, Memorandum of Association and shareholder details.
  • Trial balance and general ledger for the financial year.
  • Bank statements and bank reconciliations for the full year.
  • Prior-year audited financial statements, if any.
  • Fixed asset register and depreciation schedule.
  • Contracts, invoices and agreements supporting significant transactions.
  • Payroll records and employee end-of-service calculations.
  • Related-party balances and transaction details.

Audit ServicesYour Questions Answered

  • It depends on your legal form, licensing authority and tax position. Most free zone companies need audited financial statements to renew their licence, mainland companies are generally required to have them under the UAE Commercial Companies Law, and the Corporate Tax rules require them in certain cases. We will confirm what applies to your company.

  • Audited financial statements are required for taxable persons with revenue above AED 50 million in the relevant tax period, and for Qualifying Free Zone Persons. Companies outside these groups may still need an audit for other reasons, such as their licence or their bank.

  • GKA is an approved auditor with AFZ, DDA, DMCC, DSOA, Meydan and RAKEZ. If your company is licensed in another free zone, tell us which one and we will confirm before the engagement begins.

  • It depends on the size and complexity of the business and on how ready the records are. We agree a timeline at the start of the engagement, so share any licence renewal or reporting deadline with us as early as possible.

  • The fee depends on the size of the business, the volume and complexity of transactions and the condition of the records. We provide a fee quote once we understand your company and the scope required.

  • An external audit gives an independent opinion on your financial statements for shareholders, authorities and other users. An internal audit reviews your controls, processes and risks, and reports to management or the board to help improve them.

  • Yes. We can begin planning and identify what is missing while the records are completed. The audit itself can only be finalised once the financial statements and supporting records are ready.

  • It is an engagement in which we perform specific procedures agreed with you and the intended users of the report, and report the factual findings. It does not result in an audit opinion, which makes it suited to focused checks requested by lenders, investors or authorities.

  • Submit the enquiry form or contact us by WhatsApp. Tell us your company’s licensing authority, financial year end and the reason for the audit, and we will explain the next steps.
